Manaus: houses marked for eviction by BRT

Residents of the São José 1 district, located in the Manaus East region, were surprised on Wednesday (18) with the painting of the acronym BRT in the front of their houses, made by de City Infrastructure Secretariat (Seminf) agents, informed the D24 AM website.

According to the residents, the agents painted the numbers on the houses without informing the reason for that, generating doubts about what it meant. Seminf informed, through the press assistance, that the marking of the houses starts the beginning of the procedures for the installation of the public transportation 'Bus Rapid Transit' (BRT). 

The trader Altariza Pedrosa, 50, lives at Rua Janauacá for 26 years and said she was surprised with the painting. According to the resident, her mother is still in shock and is not able to talk because of what happened. "My mother is old, I think they should have more respect and inform us before doing what they did", she stated.

In a note, the Seminf assistance informed that the houses marked will be removed, later, in order to allow the passage of a bus rapid transit, the BRT.

Seminf informed, also, that the social assistance groups are going through the houses to visit and give invitations to meetings with the technicians and explain the process which will be performed in each area. According to the assistance, all the residents will be indemnified by the Manaus City Hall and there will be a value assessment for each property, with an agreement with the owner regarding the property value. After the agreement signature, a period will be provided for the residents to leave their houses.

BRT Project

The project approved foresees the construction of 22 km of a road ring, which will interconnect 20 stations and three terminals, with operational average speed modes of 25km/h, articulated and bi-articulated vehicle type. The maximum capacity will be 270 passengers per vehicle. There is no date defined yet for the start of the BRT operation.
