Who wants to work as a volunteer in the Confederations Cup in 2013 or in the 2014 World Cup can now get ready. FIFA plans to release until June 30 all information from the Brazilian Official Program for the World Cup Volunteers on its Web site.
The announcement was made yesterday in Manaus by the volunteer manager of the World Cup Local Organizing Committee (LOC) Rodrigo Hermida.
According to him, LOC expects to select 18,000 people to work in 2014, an average of 1,500 per host city. For the Confederations Cup, the number of volunteers is expected to reach eight thousand.
To participate, it is necessary to register in the FIFA Web site, participate in the selection process and follow the news that will be released by the entity over the following months.
"People are being qualified over time. First, we identify the characteristics and capabilities of each one. Then several steps happen, from entering the volunteers into the World Cup’s world, since many saw the event on television, but do not know how the structure works, to training them in the functions and explaining them what we want," Hermida said during the 1st Volunteer Seminar of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil.
In the first step of the program, volunteers for the Confederations Cup will be chosen. "Between September and October we will strengthen the presence of volunteers in the Confederations Cup, while always being in contact with all the 12 host cities," Hermida said.
The test tournament will be played test in Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Fortaleza and Rio de Janeiro. The participation of Salvador and Recife depends on the progress of works and will be set in June.
