The Sports Minister Aldo Rebelo visited on this Monday (April 23), the construction site of Castelão, stadium with the most advanced works for the World Cup. After receiving from the Secretariat of the World Cup in Ceará (Secopa) the information that the arena has reached 63.47% of completed works, Rebelo was full of praise to the capital of Ceará.
"I have already visited the 12 host cities, so I can say that Fortaleza is a benchmark of dedication, commitment, efficiency and responsiveness to the challenges that arise every time during the organization of the event," he said.
Rebelo could not dodge questions related to the construction company Delta, which is target of a CPI (Parliamentary Commissions of Inquiry) for its involvement with the illegal gambling game controller Carlos Cachoeira, and that participates in three urban mobility works for the World Cup, including Eixo Via Expressa, in Fortaleza, with project valued at R$ 151 million.
Because it was being investigated by the Federal Police, the contractor company withdrew from the manager consortium of the Maracanã works, which could also happen in Fortaleza.
"Why Fortaleza has to pay for a complaint made elsewhere? Unless it is proved that there is any irregularity in the work itself," said the minister, excusing the government of Ceará for the responsibility of hiring the contractor company.
Castelão has already completed two out of the four planned stages in the reform for the World Cup: the north and south parking lots and the north and south access streets. Now, workers are finishing the third stage of the work, which involves the construction of the central building of the arena.
After that, the last step, currently with about a quarter of execution, concerns the completion of the entire project and integration of all stages, according to the State Secretariat of the World Cup.
Thus, the World Cup stadium in Fortaleza remains within the deadline to be delivered in December this year. Castelão will be the stage of one of the semi-finals of the 2013 Confederations Cup.
After visiting Fortaleza, Rebelo goes to another Northeastern state capital, Natal, where the delegation of the Minister of Sports has scheduled the inspection on the Arena das Dunas construction site on this Tuesday (April 24).
