The Special Commission created in the Chamber of Deputies to discuss the World Cup General Law voted a proposal to bring forward the start of classes and school holidays in order to mitigate traffic during the World Cup matches. The information is from "Folha de S. Paulo" newspaper.
According to the bill of Deputy Vicente Cândido, students would begin the school year on January 20, with 40 days of vacation between June 10 and July 21. The measure affects both public and private schools.
The World Cup opening will take place on June 12, and the final on July 13. The 48 World Cup first round matches will be played in four schedules: 1 p.m., 4 p.m., 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. The round of 16 and quarter-finals will take place in two schedules: 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. The semi-finals and the match for third place will be played at 5 p.m. The final, at 4 p.m.
Before going into the vote, the proposal was approved by the Education Committee of the Chamber of Deputies. According to the Law of Guidelines and Bases of Education, the school year must have more than 200 school days and 800 hours per year of classes.
