Once it is done, the Maracanã Stadium, stage for the 2014 World Cup final match, may be managed by Brazil’s richest man and world’s eighth richest man, according to "Forbes" magazine.
On this Friday (9), the entrepreneur Eike Batista, who owns a conglomerate of companies in logistics, oil and mining industries, said that he is “in the running” to participate in the bid to manage the stadium in the post-World Cup period.
"We will participate (in the bid), we are in the running. We believe that the arena of Maracanã is a fantastic thing if you add other things. It can not be only a place to play football," said Batista, on the occasion of the launch of one more company, IMX, a new arm of his conglomerate (EBX), that focuses on sports endeavors.
The multimillionaire, however, imposed a condition: he wants the Maracanã bidding process is transparent. "It will be a competition. But if it is not a transparent process I will not even participate," he warned.
Batista must have the concurrence of two popular teams, Flamengo and Fluminense, which can launch a proposal for joint administration of Maracanã, along the same lines of Italian teams Milan and Internazionale.
