Without guaranteed participation in the Confederations Cup, the Arena Pernambuco will have an increase in the number of workers on the site. The intention is that the work will be completed by the end of 2012, which is six months before the FIFA test event. For this reason, Odebrecht, which is the construction firm responsible for the stadium in São Lourenço da Mata, in Greater Recife, has announced that about 300 new laborers will be taken on.
The total number of new workers is 1,870, of which 200 working at night, but this figure will now be raised to 2,150. Currently, the Arena Pernambuco, for use during the World Cup, is already 20% complete and the intention, according to Odebrecht, is that this completed part will rise to 30% by the end of the year. For March 2012, the forecast is even more daring: the building firm estimates that half the stadium will already be completed.
Two weeks after the end of a strike of the workers, the pace of the work has stabilized itself. At this moment, the land leveling of the stadium area is 100% completed, while the execution of the foundations is now nearing the final stage (80% completed). For the installation of the concrete structure, the completed portion now reaches 15%.
On November 10th, the consortium known as Arena Pernambuco received financial support from the BNDES, which announced the approval of a payment of R$ 84 million, which corresponds to 30% of the total loan.
