The Deliberative Council of Náutico approved by 84 votes in favor and two in objection the partnership to have matches in Arena Pernambuco, stadium under construction in São Lourenço da Mata, in Greater Recife, which will host the 2014 World Cup.
The decision was taken at a meeting held on the night of the last Monday (October 10), in the headquarters of the team, with the approval of the contract of the new stadium to host the Náutico matches from 2014.
The contract lasts for 33 years, during which the construction company Odebrecht will have the granting of Arena Pernambuco. Negotiations were held in confidentiality, but according to the chairman, André Campos, Náutico will receive about R$ 2 million only with the signing of the contract.
"Even without playing in the arena, Náutico begins to receive." In addition, the club will have an investment of R$ 5 million in the Training Center, which will have the construction of a hotel among the proposed works.
The contract must be signed until next week. In the first two years, Náutico will receive a fixed monthly amount.
With this decision, Náutico’s current home Estádio dos Aflitos must be sold to the private sector. So far, 13 companies have shown interest in the site. The future of Aflitos should start to be drawn on November 7, deadline for companies to submit proposals.
Negotiations
After 18 months of negotiations with Odebrecht and the state government, Náutico reached an agreement to establish a partnership with Arena Pernambuco. In March 2010, the team had sent a document to the government showing interest in taking their matches to the new stadium, but the negotiations did not progress.
In October, Náutico’s law vice president, Ivan Rocha, said that several meetings were held to discuss the matter, but there was no understanding. A few months ago the consortium has retaken the negotiations with the top teams of Pernambuco, but only Náutico reached an agreement.
Odebrecht’s challenge will be to try a partnership with Sport and Santa Cruz, which have not been receptive to the idea of abandoning their fields to get their key matches to the World Cup stadium.
Now, negotiations may be further restricted, since the teams can not join the partnership for a value greater than the value negotiated with Náutico.
When the Arena Pernambuco project was launched, the state government and the construction company said that only with the participation of the three clubs the new stadium could be profitable.
That space must receive at least 60 events per year. The idea is that the soccer teams play their 20 main matches in the stadium, which is more than 15 km from Recife downtown.
In April, members of the Sport Club do Recife approved the construction of a new 45,000 seat stadium for the club (learn more). The project has not moved on.
