In the week in which Arena Pantanal reached the milestone of 30% of works completed, the workers involved in the stadium construction brought the threat of starting a strike. The situation was solved by Santa Bárbara-Mendes Júnior Consortium and a salary agreement has been signed, discarding the need for a strike.
Even so, Agecopa (Cup Project Execution Agency in Pantanal) made a positive balance of the works for the Cuiabá Stadium for World Cup 2014. According to the agency of the Government of Mato Grosso, the earthworks, draining and foundation phases are virtually finished and the construction phase runs in accelerated pace.
For Eder Moraes, President of the agency, the schedule is being fulfilled "as planned", and in the next months, the works must have "significant progress".
In the last days, a 30-meter tall, 170-ton crane made its “debut” in the stadium work site. The equipment brought from Germany will be used to lift precast metal and concrete structures and should accelerate by 50% the installation of pillars, slabs and bleachers of Arena Pantanal, according to forecasts of the consortium.
“The assembly of concrete bleachers has already started with the installation of alligator-type beams, which are concrete parts that Will support the steps. Ramps to access the arena and the towers to Access the bleachers can already be viewed in the work site, shaping the multipurpose arena,” completed Moraes.
After their incorporation in the work site in July, the metallic structures of dismountable bleachers (north and south) of the Arena are now in the 300,000 m2 land lot.
"Quasi"-strike
After the expiration in the end of June of a salary agreement signed between the Santa Bárbara-Mendes Júnior Consortium and the workers at the arena, the workers involved in the works brought the threat of starting a strike if a readjustment was not made. But the strike ended as a threat only. In the last Thursday (15), the new agreement has been signed in a meeting attended by workers, union representatives and consortium executive managers.
The percentage of the additional bonus for assiduity and its incorporation to the base salary were renegotiated as claimed by the workers. According to the advisors of the Union of Workers in the Civil Construction Industry of Cuiabá and cities, the minimum wage of civil constructions, senior workers, workers and assistants has been raised, as well as the value of meal vouchers.
According to Agecopa, 600 workers are now involved in the arena works, which is a figure that must reach 1,000 by the end of the year.
