Earthworks for the construction of Itaquera Stadium reached 50% completion in September. The information is provided by Odebrecht, the contractor company in charge of the works.
The works started on May 31, with the leveling of the terrain located in the east zone of the city of São Paulo. Next, the foundation works began with the driving of piles (600 to this date) and blocks (130). The first structural pillars were also installed in the east sector.
According to the city administration, 12% of Itaquerão works have been performed. Gilmar Tadeu, Municipal Secretary for the World Cup, also said that the works are 30% ahead the original schedule. The 48,000-seat stadium must be delivered in December 2013, and is candidate for the opening ceremony of the World Cup.
The construction of the new arena is budgeted in R$ 820 million. But the figures must be near R$ 900 million, as the state government will bear the rental cost of 20,000 temporary seats to reach the minimum capacity required for the opening match – which demand services amounting to at least R$ 50 million.
In addition, Corinthians should pay for the removal of Petrobras pipes that cross the terrain underground. Works are expected to cost more than R$ 30 million.
To raise the stadium, the soccer club relies on the financing of R$ 400 million from BNDES (National Development Bank), and additional R$ 420 million from the city administration, a cash amount to enter the treasury of the club in the form of bonds named as CIDs (Certificates for Development Incentives).
