The Porto Alegre city administration delivered yesterday (August 31st) the basic projects for new urban mobility works included in the chart of responsibilities of the city, aiming at World Cup 2014, informed FIFA website. The next step includes the analysis of the projects by a public institution for financing the interventions.
Three projects have been delivered, including the first deployment stage of the BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) system at Avenida Protásio Alves, which connects the downtown region to the east zone. This first stage is aimed at paving the bus corridors.
Another project includes the crossing between Rua Anita Garibaldi and Avenida Terceira Perimetral. This passage should facilitate the traffic of the other BRT, along the Terceira Perimetral corridor, connecting Salgado Filho International Airport to south zone.
The third project is the construction and internal structuring of the Operational Control Center (CCO), which will be in charge of monitoring the bus corridors.
The city administration expects to announce the bid processes still this year in order to enable the works starting in the first months of 2012.
