Federal Congressman Romário has once again criticized Ricardo Teixeira, the President of the Brazilian Football Confederation (Confederação Brasileira de Futebol – CBF) yesterday (August 14) during a program aired by television station RedeTV. According to the former player, the executive should not have more than one position held. Indeed, Mr. Teixeira is also at the helm of the Local Organizing Committee (Comitê Organizador Local – COL) and is also on a FIFA Committee.
“It is not compatible for him to have three jobs at the same time. It is even bad for his health. He could delegate some things”, the Congressman said.
According to Romário, the preparations for the World Cup shall only progress when the problems involving the person of Mr. Teixeira are solved. “He would then have more time to solve these problems that he has got himself involved in. I cannot be sure, as concrete proof has not appeared, but I smell a rat. If he has to pay for what he has done, then he will indeed pay”.
At the end of May, the Federal Congressman, representing the Brazilian Socialist Party (PSB) and the State of Rio de Janeiro, called upon the President of the CBF to explain the allegations of corruption. “Had he gone, many doubts would have been cleared and many questions would have been answered”.
In relation to the CBF, the former player said that the institution is not entirely private, as it does not pay some taxes. “There is a public counter payment and this must not be swept under the carpet”, he said.
Forgotten during the draw of the groups for the qualifying rounds of the World Cup, Romário said that there had been a lack of respect and consideration, but that the supporters know who he was.
He also criticized the Brazilian preparations for the 2014 FIFA World Cup™. “Unfortunately the World Cup in Brazil shall not be for the Brazilian people, who are the people who really like soccer”, he added.
