After meeting with the ex-player, President Dilma Rousseff signed on this Tuesday a decree appointing Pelé ambassador of Brazil in the Soccer World Cup 2014.
"I could not but accept this invitation from our President. You know that I defend and promote Brazil since I was born, since my first World Cup. It is a great responsibility," says the three-time champion player to journalists when leaving the meeting with Dilma.
The 'Soccer King', who in some occasions called the attention on the problems with infrastructures and organization of the Cup, recommended to the Brazilian population to trust in the capacity of the country to host this event.
"I would like to ask all the Brazilians to believe, although I was formerly confused and with a lot of doubts due to some problems occurred here, but now I think that we can believe, as the President stated that all the required efforts will be made, and I expect that we deliver this World Cup well," declared the ex-player, champion of the Soccer World Cups 1958, 1962 and 1970.
By its turn, Orlando Silva, Minister of Sports, said that Dilma considers that "Pelé would be the best image of World Cup 2014" for his overall contribution for the world soccer.
The appointment of the soccer star as ambassador of the Cup was made four days before the Preliminary Draw, to be carried out on the next Saturday in Rio de Janeiro.
