Water and sewerage ducts do not stop work on the Arena das Dunas

The removal and the relocation of the water and sewerage ducts passing under the area where the Arena das Dunas shall be constructed shall in no way hinder the normal progress of the construction work for the stadium in Natal for the 2014 FIFA World Cup™. Ricardo Varela, the Technical Director of the Rio Grande do Norte Water and Sewerage Company (Companhia de Água e Esgoto do RN - Caern) has informed that the cost for the installation of new ducts, in an adjacent area, is in the region of R$ 280 thousand and that, by Law, the tender process should take some 90 days.

Natal does not need to worry because the removal and relocation of these water and sewerage ducts shall in no way affect the progress of the work on the Arena das Dunas. It is true that we shall need at least ninety days to open the bidding process and also approve the winning company (normal proceedings, as required by Law). However, this does not in any way prevent the company responsible for the construction of the stadium from continuing with the work on the new arena as normal”, Mr. Varela explained.

He also said that a new well shall be bored inside the Administrative Center of RN, in the area alongside the Machadão-Machadinho complex, where the new Arena das Dunas shall be erected. “Well 10, which is inside the site to be used for the Arena, has already been discontinued. Caern shall have an extra cost of approximately R$ 35 thousand for the removal and the relocation of the water ducts, and an additional R$ 35 thousand for the drilling of a new well in the Administration Center”, Mr. Varela also informed.

In relation to the work on the sewerage ducts, especially concerning the change of tubing, the investment shall be in the region of R$ 213 thousand, Caern shall use its own funds, according to Mr. Varela, to make this water and sewerage work feasible.

Through the Press Communication Department, the Energy Company of Rio Grande do Norte (Companhia Energética do Rio Grande do Norte – Cosern) has informed that “they are awaiting the electricity Project for the Arena das Dunas, which shall be presented to the energy distribution company by construction firm OAS, for the definition of the conditions and also the time frame for the removal of the electricity network from the vicinity of the Machadão stadium”. Demétrio Torres, the World Cup Secretary for the Government of Rio Grande do Norte, has said that by next week these studies shall be delivered to Cosern by OAS, the company responsible for the construction of the Arena das Dunas stadium.
