Salvador 2014: São Paulo Hill wants to attract World Cup tourists

Interested in wooing the tourists who plan to visit Brazil during the 2014 FIFA World Cup™, the municipality of Cairu, in the southern part of the state of Bahia, will be one of the first cities to host the “Regional Forum: World Cup Bahia 2014”. This event will take place on July 22nd and 23rd in São Paulo Hill.

The event will be organized by the state secretariat (Secopa) in partnership with the Municipal Secretariat for Tourism of the city of Cairu. The main purpose of this event is to bring together the local tourist trade to discuss a municipal training programme and also the strategies to be used to attract tourists from the whole world, who will be in Brazil in 2014 to watch the matches of the 2014 FIFA World Cup™ but who will also be eager to see a bit of the country.

On Friday morning (July 22nd), there will be a series of lectures and debates with public government authorities and also with the entrepreneurial class about issues including infrastructure, qualification of labor and institutional strategies to attract the tourist. At this event there will be a talk about “Marketing and International Promotion”, given by Kátia Cristina Alves Bitencourt, from the Brazilian Tourist Authority (Embratur), as well as a round-table discussion about “Investments and Business Opportunities” with representatives from the Brazilian Association of Bars and Restaurants (Associação Brasileira de Bares e Restaurantes – Abrasel) and the Brazilian Hotel Industry Association (Associação Brasileira da Indústria de Hotéis – ABIH) and the Bank of the Brazilian Northeast (Banco do Nordeste do Brasil – BNB).

On Saturday (July 23rd), the City Hall will promote a technical visit with the Secopa team to present the tourist routes and also the infrastructure of the town, as also the new projects that are being developed in preparation for the forthcoming World Cup, such as the redevelopment of São Paulo Hill and also the restoration of historical sites on the Hill itself and also in Cairu.

“We have a consolidated destination, which is the São Paulo Hill. Our role is that of enhancing the qualities of the Hill and also to segment other destinations such as Boipeba, Gamboa, Moreré, Garapuá, and also the city of Cairu itself. For this, we need to improve infrastructure, qualify the supply of services and also give appropriate training to our labor”, says the City Mayor, Hildécio Meireles.

Natural Beauty
Located in the far South of the state of Bahia, standing 308 km from the state capital Salvador, Cairu is the only “archipelago municipality” in Brazil. The city consists of 26 islands and has an average annual temperature of 25°C, with beaches that are kissed by the sun throughout the year, attracting tourists from everywhere in the world. This is currently the third most popular tourist destination in the state of Bahia, after Salvador and Porto Seguro.
