The Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro has today (April 25th) announced that there are plans to inaugurate 36 new hotels in the State by the time of the 2014 FIFA World Cup™, of which 17 will be in the Capital.
These launches also represent investments totaling R$ 1.4 billion in the hotel business in the state of Rio de Janeiro, boosted not only by the World Cup but also by the hosting of the 2016 Summer Olympic Games and also the growth in sectors such as shipbuilding, petroleum and gas.
“The growth in the number of hotels in the State takes place at a time when the Government is showcasing Rio de Janeiro to the world. The capital is the main locomotive in this process, but we also see a rise in the number of visitors to the state”, said the State Secretary for Tourism, Ronald Azero.
The estimate is that a total of 7.5 thousand hotel rooms will be created in the State. According to the Brazilian Hotel Industry Association (Associação Brasileira da Indústria Hoteleira – ABIH), the current capacity is 28 thousand hotel rooms.
