The Government of São Paulo said yesterday (26) that the construction of the eastern section of the Beltway will begin next month. According to the governor Geraldo Alckmin, the start of work will occur after the signature of the contract with the concessionaire SPMar, winner of the bidding started in November.
"The company has 30 days to sign the contract. Then, time begins to run”, he said. "We hope the works to be initiated in February”.
The course will be an important access route to the new Corinthians stadium. It will link the region of Itaquera to the south and west areas of the city of São Paulo. "The construction will link the country's largest airport (Cumbica) to the country's largest port (Santos). It will impact the national infrastructure”, said the secretary of Metropolitan Transport, Jurandir Fernandes.
The bid provided both the construction of the eastern section and the granting of the southern section, inaugurated at the beginning of the year. Until July this year, an R$ 2.20 toll will be charged on the course which connects the highways Imigrantes and Anchieta to the complex Anhanguera/Bandeirantes. It is estimated that the toll value in the eastern region will be R$ 1.65.
The new section of the Beltway will have 43.5 km and will cost R$ 4 billion. With some improvements in the southern section, the total value of the investment will reach R$ 5 billion. BNDES will finance 70% of the total value. The company will have to pay R$ 370 million for grant to the state government. The work should last 44 months, thus finishing in September 2014, three months after the World Cup.
