The proposals for the logo of the 2016 Olympic Games shall be reviewed. None of the eight finalists achieved the minimum of 96 points as requested by the Invitation to Bid and were rejected by the Judging Commission.

The organization of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio shall today (Tuesday) be passing on to the companies the technical comments as made by the members of the said commission. They shall have up to 27 August to present new proposals or make adjustments to the ones already presented.

The Judging Commission has not set a date for a new meeting, due to the commitments of its members - four of them came from other countries. However, before the start of September the commission should meet again, for a new round of assessments.

The companies participating in this tender are Brainbox Design (PR), Dupla Design (RJ), Future Brand (SP), Gad Design (SP), Soter Design (RJ), Studio Lúmen (PR), Tátil Design (RJ) and Vinte Zero Um (RJ).

Process

The judging commission is made up of 12 members selected by the Organizing Committee of the 2016 Olympic Games, based on their experience in the creation and approval of brand programs or for their importance within the International Olympic Movement.

In the first part of the work, the commission watched a briefing presented to the agencies with the concept of the 2016 Olympic Games and also the technical specifications for presenting the proposed brands. Next, there was the presentation of the brands and also the assessments of the judges. Four items were taken into consideration: concept, originality, creativity and applicability of the creative proposals.

Sifting

The selection process started in April, with 130 companies. The eight finalists received a pro-labore payment of R$ 10 thousand (€ 4,468.23) and a participation diploma. The author of the chosen brand shall be known after the validation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and shall be announced in December.

The winning agency shall receive an additional R$ 40 thousand (€ 17,872.93) and shall also sign a six months contract  with the possibility of renewal, for the provision of design services.
