The last obstacle for the commencement of work on the Arena Capibaribe has been overcome today (29th) with the clearance of the environmental license by the State Agency for the Environment and Water Resources (CPRH). According to the Government of the State of Pernambuco, the installation of the work site in the city of São Lourenço da Mata (standing some 19 km from Recife) is now authorized, and all that remains now is a definition of the dates.
According to the Odebrecht Press Assessory, the construction company which leads the consortium responsible for this development, the schedule shall be established soon. The compulsory purchases in the area have now been completed.
The cost of the Arena Capibaribe shall be R$ 464 million (€ 205.33 million),and the stadium shall have a capacity of 46 thousand people as well as a car park with six thousand parking spaces. With a multiuse project, this location was planned to host major events, such as international shows and trade fairs.
The consortium that shall construct and operate the new stadium consists of Odebrecht, ISG (International Stadia Group) and AEG Facilities. This consortium shall also be responsible for the execution of the “World Cup City” project, with nine thousand housing units.
After the commencement of operation of this arena, in 2013, the Government of the State of Pernambuco shall make a counterpayment of R$ 332 thousand (€ 146.91 thousand) per month, during 30 years. The total value comes to R$ 119.52 million (€ 52.89 million), as stated in the contract for Public-Private Partnership (PPP).
