A new World Cup album shall be released next week throughout Brazil, now included in newspapers and magazines of high circulation. Instead of players, the pictures shall have photographs and details of the Havaianas flip-flops of the Teams series, a way that the Brazilian brand has chosen to honor the World Cup in South Africa.

There shall be 900 thousand copies distributed free of charge. To obtain the pictures you shall need to buy some product in the Teams range: towels, piercings, key rings or, of course, the traditional flip-flops. This information was made available today, through the Means and Message (Meio e Mensagem) bulletin on the CBN radio station.

The new flip-flops are already on the European market and bring the colors of 32 teams from all five continents. In Brazil, as from this week, it is possible to find pairs of flip-flops in the colours of Germany, Croatia, Argentina, Paraguay, the United States, Brazil, France, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Nigeria, Cameroon, South Africa, Colombia, Australia, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain.

Launched in 1962
The Havaianas flip-flops were first launched in 1962, which was also the year in which Brazil won the World Cup for the second time. The manufacturer, São Paulo Alpargatas, based itself on the design of the traditional Japanese sandals made of rice straw. Notice: the drawing and the texture of the soles are an imitation of the grains of the cereal, while the strips imitate the strands of fiber. In spite of this, the Havaianas flip-flops have become well known throughout the world as being the true “Brazilian flip-flops”, so much so that they are now a highly desired consumer item in any country of the world.

One of the secrets of the success of this product is of course the cheap price, but there are also some technological considerations: for example, the sole is coated with a layer of natural latex, that soaks up the sweat from the feet and ensures comfort even in scorching hot weather. Another detail is that the “strips never come loose”, as Brazilian comedian Chico Anísio said in the commercial film released in 1970, also the year when Brazil won the World Cup for the third time...
