They say that in Bahia everything ends as a party. With the World Cup, things could by not be different, all the more when the themes reach out to the heart of popular taste: football and Carnival.
The announcement of an out-of-season Carnival in June 2014, during the World Cup games, has drawn the attention of the participants in the Northeastern Round to the Cup (Rodada Nordestina Rumo à Copa), an event which started yesterday and shall continue through today in the capital of Bahia.
This new development was informed by the executive co-ordinator of the World Cup, within the Salvador City Hall, Leonel Leal. The co-ordinator has said that the idea is to create a calendar of parallel cultural activities, which would end with Carnival as its climax.
However, the proposal of the City Hall is still premature. Asked about how the party would unfold, the co-ordinator said that there is as yet no project for the event and that the details shall be presented to the World Cup Managing Committee, the tourist trade, and first and foremost FIFA; “The proposal needs to be developed from the technical and financial standpoint, to boost the visibility of the city during the games.”
The experiences of other countries, the preparation of the cities to welcome the players, and the laws in incentive of sports pursuits were other themes that triggered the debates. This meeting had the presence of the special football advisor of the Ministry for Sports, Alcindo Rocha, and Secopa secretary Ney Campello, among other authorities.
Today, the meeting continues with a different focus: the identification of problems and opportunities for the Press. Exclusively for journalists, advertising workers and business people in the communications area, this second day shall be aimed, first and foremost, at shedding light on any doubts that journalists may have about the communication process in the World Cup.
“FIFA’s expectation is that of attracting to the 2014 World Cup some 30 thousand journalists from the whole world. For this reason, we need to be prepared, but this shall only be possible with the technical collaboration of our own press”, mentions Rilson Campos, the president of the Brazilian Institute for Sports Development (IBDE).
After Salvador, the Rounds of Debates shall move on to three more capitals of the Northeast Region. On the 15th and 16th, the event comes to Recife; on the 18th and 19th, to Natal; and, finally, to Fortaleza on the 24th and 25th.
