The Federal District will not have the Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) among the works completed for the 2014 World Cup. The project was excluded from the Responsibility Matrix at the request of the Government of the Federal District, according to a resolution published today (September 28) in the Official Gazette.
Even before publication, the local government had admitted there was no more time for it to be ready until the World Cup.
Begun in 2009, the project – budgeted at R$ 276.9 million – has been stopped since April 2011 by the Federal District Court due to suspicion of fraud during the bidding process, during the government of José Roberto Arruda.
The LRV would have a length of 6.5 km to connect the Juscelino Kubitschek International Airport to the South Wing. In its place, a corridor of urban transport with lanes and overpasses should be prepared, which will provide greater agility to the displacement of delegations. The estimated cost for the corridor is R$ 100 million.
