Maracanazo
The first World Cup held in Brazil had a tragic outcome for the locals. A draw in the last match would have locked the title for Brazil, but a turnaround in the game gave the victory to the Uruguayans and frustrated the 200,000 fans packing the Maracanã stadium in Rio de Janeiro. The loss, which earned the nickname of "Maracanazo", haunted the memory of Brazilians for many years.
